In this privacy statement, we inform you about the use of your personal data when you visit the website and sign up for the NL Startup Competition. For example, you can read about the purposes for which personal data is processed, how you can exercise your privacy rights and other information that may be important to you.
The NL Startup Competition is a regional event in the Netherlands aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. The NL Startup Competition is organized by Upstream, MT/Sprout, Golden Egg Check and Erasmus Enterprise, in collaboration with the partners mentioned on the front page of this website. Erasmus Enterprise, hereinafter EE, is the responsible controller for the processing of personal data for the NL Startup Competition.

As a participant of the NL Startup Competition, you provide us with some personal data that is necessary to organize the NL Startup Competition. For instance, your email or phone number can be used to inform you about the status of your application. Additionally, when you sign up for the competition, you create an account on the platform provided by Golden Egg Check. In short, the following categories of personal data are used:
Cookies
EE uses cookies to make the website work. When you visit our website, we process your personal data with these cookies, such as your IP address and usage data to gain information on how you navigate this website. You can read more about the use of cookies in the cookie statement.
GDPR basis
EE may only use personal data for the NL Startup Competition if there is a reason to do so. The possible reasons are referred to in the privacy legislation as legal bases. EE processes personal data for various legal bases.
The use of personal data for NL Startup Competition is necessary for the legitimate interests of the organizations involved, namely the organization of the competition and to ensure the security and functioning of the website for website visitors.
Am I obligated to provide this personal data?
As a participant, you are obliged to provide this information, as it is not possible to consider your application without it. Not providing this information will make the application ineligible for the competition.
As a website visitor, your personal data is collected through the placing of cookies, as mentioned in our cookie statement. Some of the cookies are based on your consent. Therefore, for these cookies, you are not required to provide personal data and can opt out through your browser settings or through the cookie settings.
With whom will my personal data be shared?
Personal data of participants is only shared with the people directly involved in the organization of the NL Startup Competition, such as the selection committee. There is no automated decision-making or any form of profiling involved in the competition.
Where necessary for the organization, third parties may provide certain parts of the service on behalf of us, such as Golden Egg Check and MT/Sprout. In that case, we make agreements with these parties to ensure confidential and careful handling of personal data. These agreements are contractually laid down in so-called ‘Data processing agreements’ or other agreements that fit the situation. If parties are located outside the European Economic Area (EEA), additional and appropriate safeguards will be put in place.
Your personal data will not be rented or sold to other parties. If we receive your personal data from another party or share it with another party, you will be informed about this.
How long will the personal data be stored?
For the NL Startup Competition, Erasmus Enterprise does not store personal data any longer than is strictly necessary to achieve the purposes for which the data was collected. We may also be obligated to retain data for a certain period of time, as this is required by tax and employment laws.
What rights do I have as a data subject?
As a data subject, you have various rights under the GDPR.
For example, you have the right to know whether your personal data is being processed. If this is the case, you can ask us for access to this personal data. If the data is incorrect, you have the right to ask us to amend, supplement and restrict its use. You can also ask us to delete the data or transfer it to a third party. Finally, you can object to the processing of your personal data.
Giving and withdrawing consent
If the use of your personal data was based on consent, you as a data subject always have the right to withdraw consent for the use of your personal data. The processing of your personal data prior to the withdrawal of your consent will then remain lawful.
